Rebranding a professional sports franchise is any designer's dream job. Though it ain't pretty, Google is really helping us designers pretty up the web. While most designers have been eager to adopt and espouse the @font-face specification for CSS, most gloss over the fact that IE users will miss out on all this wonder until IE9 finally appears on the market. I feel like a kid in a candy shop right now, with Willy Wonka himself unveiling his latest and greatest fantastical delicacies, one after another. Right now, we are witnessing a massive change in how we consume media, made possible by the confluence of high-speed wireless connectivity, web standards compliance, new software platforms, and portable, powerful, tactile devices. And as a designer, I couldn't be happier, because it heralds a revolution in design, and a brighter future for books, newspapers, and magazines.

Today I was introduced to SquareSpace, the latest and supposedly greatest CMS out there. Seems I've been hearing that a bunch lately, and every couple of months, it seems a newer, more polished CMS is out there, with a website that is designed to embrace the very latest web trends. And honestly, I couldn't be happier... or more confused.

My Website Redesign: Looking Forward. Looking Back.

When it came time to redesign my website, I found myself wrangling with a handful of issues that required a great deal of thought and reflection. Should I blog? Should I moved to a more content-driven design? What, if anything, do I want to salvage from my existing site? What CMS should I use? And within each issue live a million little gremlins that have clearly been fed after midnight. So now that I've gotten this far, I figure I should shed some light on my reasons for the decisions I've made.
