My dear Mac enthusiasts... the day we've long-feared is upon us... Steve Jobs is stepping down. While this news isn't unexpected — rather quite the opposite — it's still not easy news to take. It seems my uncanny sense of timing has surfaced once again.

iTunes... uSuck.

Poor iTunes. Talk about a rough week. First your logo gets a facelift that nobody likes. Then your interface gets a supposed overhaul that fails to impress. Third, you get turned into an ambitious, but ultimately misguided social network. And finally, you get hammered with spam within the first hours of launch. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemies, let alone one of my favorite pieces of software. There have been calls for Apple to completely redesign iTunes for years now, but each upgrade has failed to do one important thing... realize what iTunes has become.

Few things engage the design and technology industries like an Apple event, and this year's music event has already set the blogosphere ablaze with commentary. The most anticipated announcement this year was the complete overhaul of AppleTV. Many of us hoped this announcement would herald the death of cable tv and its outdated box technology. Sadly, it did not. Instead we were left with some enigmatic black box that looks more like a hub than a media center. UPDATED: October 5th, 2010.

Little Brother. All Grown Up.

Published on Sunday, June 20, 2010

Apple, the once rebellious younger sibling of the digital revolution has grown up, and finds itself now the leader of the industry. Apple is now the most valuable American tech company, with the market cap being raised higher with the successful launch of the iPad, and the massive quantity of orders for the iPhone 4. This news is great for Apple, but has seemingly begun to cost them their reputation as the 'little guy', and has seen them adopt some business practices that would make Bill Gates proud. While these moves have been extremely unpopular, especially among the tinkerers, hobbyists, and of course, fanboys, they make a great deal of sense.

I must admit being on the fence about whether I'll purchase a first-gen iPad, but ever since hearing about the device, I've been noticing its absence. Tonight, for example...

Addendum #1 to my iPad Review:
Microsoft's Courier

Published on Tuesday, March 09, 2010

Now it's truly rare I find praise for a Microsoft product, but lately, I gotta say, I've found myself saying that quite a bit. The bing.com interface is a thing of beauty, Windows7 has shown massive improvements to the OS, and Internet Explorer 9 shows Microsoft finally listening to the web community, and making themselves standards-compliant. All of these are great steps, but one that's truly surprised me is their new 'tablet' device, named Courier. UPDATED June 2nd, 2010.

The Obligatory, Reactionary iPad Review

On a day when the President spoke about creating new jobs, many of us were instead listening to Jobs speak about creating a new precedent. During the days hence, the internet has been abuzz with reactions to the iPad... some heralding it as the seed of a revolution, some calling it another piece of Apple-flavoured candy, and some claiming it's nothing more than Apple sauce.

Where's the Touch-Screen Remote Control?

Over the years, I've given a great deal of thought to the fusion of the internet and the television in a truly integrated, broadband, high-definition experience. I've seen MediaCenter PC's, checked out AppleTV, and even ordered Netflix through my Xbox360, yet these chaotic and overlapping solutions have failed unleash the true potential of this technology. Let's face it... we have a slew of devices and incompatible technologies on which we engage with our media.
