Daily Inspiration:
The End of Geography

Published on Tuesday, August 30, 2011

Every now and then, you come across some artwork that makes you stop and take a second look, and ponder things a bit deeper. This is exactly what I found with the End of Geography project. Take a look at the artwork in the video below.

While we live in a world built upon intense social, physical, natural, and technological interactions, it’s rare that we think about how this connections tether us to reality. They form the basis of our consciousness and pervade everything we do as human beings, yet we rarely think about the subtle and infinitesimal transference of this data. These works of art combine hazy snapshots with digital designs denoting the invisible strings and connections that tie us to our world. The hazy and black and white snapshots act as powerful, yet faded memories that are deeply rooted into the webbing of our consciousness. Similarly, they convey the role that technology plays in modern life, connecting our memories to our shared online consciousness, as streams of data which paint the digital landscape of our lives.

“The Internet Age has been hailed as the end of geography. In fact, the internet has a geography of its own, a geography made of networks and nodes that process information flows generated and managed from places. … It redefines distance but does not cancel geography”.
